I have a 1973 65hp Johnson (Model 653SL73R) long shaft with a bad, non-repairable cylinder but good exhaust and lower unit. I also have a 1977 70hp Evinrude (Model 70773F) with a good powerhead but corroded exhaust and lower unit. Is it possible to put both the good exhaust and lower unit from the 65hp on the 70hp?

possible. but would take some alterations, as the shift linkage is totally different, you would have to use all the 65 linkage or all the 70 linkage. also 65 was hydro-mechanical shift, 70 was a mechanical shift. i may have something to help you. will check tomorrow.

Sounds more complicated then I had hoped. I would appreciate any additional information you can provide. Thanks!
