I have a 1985 Johnson 70 with a a bad bushing and rod keeper (part 0330935). I tried to remove the bushing, but it seems very stuck. Is there a trick to get this out or do I just need to pull harder. My Clymer manual is not helpful in this matter. Any ideas?
The bushing is where the rod for the shift linkage meets the rod coming up from the lower unit. It cracked in half and, while it still sort of works, there is a lot of play.
I can't pull the shift linkage rod out because it hits the side of the outboard case.
