Maybe someone else will chime in. Would seem there would be a safe way to kill the motor if you had to.

Yes, there is an "Emergency Shut Off Switch" it was disconnected due to rewiring for the repower, I was only verifying that I had the Ignition switch wired correctly when I tried the starter, I wasnt planing on starting it (I never primed it so I didnt think it would start). The Emergency Shut Off is now connected and working properly.

Good that you have the emergency lanyard switch working. But guess what?
All it does is ground that magic black/yellow wire!!! So, if the open in the black/yellow wire was, say, in the big red plug, from corrosion maybe....the emergency lanyard would not work either.
And when the guys say to choke it down, the only way is with rags over the carbs.
I have a question...you were not planning on starting it...so did you have it on muffs, or in the water? If you ran the water pump dry for as long as it takes to run the carb bowls out of gas, you have damaged the WP impeller.

I have the Emergency lanyard connected, but I also have a push button Kill Switch (similar to what is used in a truck) connected which is wired directly to the bus panel. as for the impeller, I was planning to run the motor that same day, so I had the motor in the tank filled with water in preperation for running it later. Like I said, I wasnt expecting it to start, I dont even think it made a complete revolution before it fired up, I barley bumped the starter. The only good thing about this is I know now it will start very easy and if im working on the motor I need to remove the lanyard prior to starting the work.
