Johnson Alarms

I have a 1990 Johnson 225 which recently ran ok. Yesterday, I launched and ran it up to 5000 rpm for about a mile when an alarm sounded. Ishut down and tried to figure it out, didn't. When restarted, the engine would run fine up to 2900 rpm then sound like it was missing and the alarm again comes on. Anyone have any ideas? Had plenty of oil in oil tank, water pump is ok, gas is a little old but smells fine. Engine not hard to start.

Steady alarm?? Indicates overheat problem. How do you know the water pump is fine? Possible thermostat problem...

Steady alarm also can indicate restricted fuel flow to the pump.....as Rick posted, be sure the engine is not overheating....then check out the fuel supply to the engine....make sure the tank is venting also.

OBJ, didn't know the 90' models had the fuel restriction alarm....

Yeah Rick....mounted in a hole in the pump bracket. Near all V6's had them that had the VRO (OMS) pump.

OBJ & Rick:

Replaced the fuel line bulb and installed a clear view gas line filter. The old bulb was not allowing enoough fuel to the carbs. Engine runs fine now, 5500 rrpms with no alarms or misfires. Thanx for your inputs. By the way, I wish I had a manual. Also, the wter pump was brand new, this was first use, other than backyard start-ups. Thanx. EMUUTI
