Johnson conversion/adaptor for steering

I bought a boat without an engine that has a teleflex steering cable. I found a good engine too cheap to pass up, a 40 hp Johnson (I think it is a early 70's, not sure though) But, the Johnson I purchased doesn't have a teleflex hook up. The Johnson was attached to a boat that had a series of pulleys and cables for steering. I need a conversion kit to make this work. Is there such a kit? how much?

someone else asked that question not too long ago. i believe the answer was yes, if you do a search for it - i believe it gives a site for the kit.<br />-<br />west marine sells it. its called -<br />'transom support master mounting kit' made by teleflex. telef# SA27256P aluminum or<br /># SA27255P stainless steel<br />description says-- universal mount for most outboard motor steering applications. <br />-this kit includes the teleflex O/B motor clamp block, support tube and the clevis kit.<br />-bolts to the inside of the transom & provides an anchoring point for the steering cable.<br /><br />hope that helps

I have the part that bolts to boat transom and connects to steering. If you can find what you need, or want. Bump to top for last resort. Iboats may have these items.

The motor end of the steering cable either goes through a tube that is mounted through the transom clamp assembly, or goes through a tube that is attached to inside of the boat's transom with a special clamp. You might already have the latter assembly in place. In addition, you may also have the clevis bolt and assembly attached to the end of the steering cable. <br /><br />You can make an L-shaped bracket that will bolt through the hole used to attach the old pulley to the motor. Drill a hole in the other end of the bracket and mount the vertical bolt for the cable hookup there. (An option to locating and purchasing a conversion kit for the new steering hookup).
