Johnson/evinrude 70hp powerhead compatibility

Can anyone tell me if a 1980 evinrude 70hp powerhead will fit on a 1977 johnson 70hp? I've read there is a difference regarding the exhaust outlet but get conflicting years about when that took place? Thanks,

The 1980 will bolt up to the 77 mid. A direct swap, no problem.
