Hi Tashasdaddy, on more than a few occasions I have seen you post that when changing fuel line to be sure to use J/E fuel line. Rather than clutter up someone else's post, I thought I would ask seperately.

What is so special about the J/E line? I would think that any automotive grade fuel hose would be adequate, at least that would have been my assumption.

I am willing to learn something here, and hopefully others can also!

Thanks for all your advice!

I am not TD, but the reason I believe is that the quality is better. The check valve in the bulb the seals on the end ect.

Re: Johnson/Evinrude Fuel Line

I was wondering the same thing. TD said in a post that I read earlier today that suzuki looked similar to an evinrude hose but is different. I am wondering is he talking about the hose itself or the complete assembly, bulb, hose, fittings, ect. If anyone knows I'd like some clairification.

Thanks

Probably because the bulb, hoses and fittings are much better than the after market ones you get at Wally world...:)
As far as automotive the fuel lines need to be USCG rated.

not sure about Suzuki, but the yamaha fittings look just like the Evinrude johnson, but the hole is larger so they won't seal.

Re: Johnson/Evinrude Fuel Line

Clarification, the internal hoses, need to be alcohol resistant fuel hose. automotive is fine. the external line from tank to Motor is what is was referring to. some of the aftermarket manufacturers hoses have weak check valves, the solution for this is point the arrow to the sky, and pump.

but the main thing is the end connections, i know 2 for sure that look identical, one is too small the other too large and leaks.

i do use aftermarket hoses, but i make sure they are the correct ends. also the marine sell hose parts, ends, bulbs etc. you have to get the correct ones.

Re: Johnson/Evinrude Fuel Line

Thanks TD, that clears things up. So it is primarily to make sure you get a good bulb and the correct fittings on the end.

If I am reading this right, if I were to build up a long hose from the front of the boat, for instance, I could use automotive fuel hose from an auto parts store if I use the proper ends on it and a good fuel bulb off an Original Equipment Fuel line.

Thanks again!

yes, i would use 3/8 inch ID line. if it is going to be exposed to the open, i would get some pvc pipe big enough to slip the hose thur. for protection. they can be easy to damage.

Re: Johnson/Evinrude Fuel Line

Thanks for clearing that up for us. The hose I am using is one that I assumed came off my boat. The boat sat for years in my dad's back yard and everything that could be brought inside got put in his garage along with 40+ years of other stuff. I know I could have bought a hose assy. and hoped that fixed the problem but throwing money at boat problems gets real expensive real quick. Thanks to all that helped with this thread. I think this is the root of my lean sneeze problem.
