Does lower unit fit from Evinrude 50hp 1975 at my engine Johnson 50hp 1972?
Both lower units have the manual gear shift verstion.

Evinrude model nr: 50573B, serial number B3373

Johnson modell nr: 50R72C, serial number B2202

Would be very grateful for answer, thanks in advance

Re: Johnson/Evinrude lower unit compatibility

a 1972 Johnson has a hydro-electric lower unit.

1975 has the Hydro mechanical lower unit.

they are nothing alike.

you need a 1971 or 1972 lower unit, good luck finding a working one.

1975 has the Hydro mechanical lower unit.

I think you will find that a manual start 72 Johnson has a manual shift unit and that the 75 Evinrude is a plain mechanical shift.

Even so they are different.

They are both mechanical shift. 1972 could have either hydro or mech.

Is it difference between mechanical shift and manual shift?

Could I put my engine on evinrude rigg? the axis have the same shift in the end anyway...

Thanks

Re: Johnson/Evinrude lower unit compatibility

The swap may be possible despite the differences.

The drive shafts are different but may still mate with the other engine ( the cranks are the same so at least the splines will fit)

The parts of the two shift mechanisms are different so it'll be a question of whether one can be mated with the other and if so at what point.

Give it a try and lets us know the result.

Just noticed though that one gearcase has 5 bolts attaching it to the leg, the other has 6. Maybe the actual casings are not interchangeable. All the internals are different.
