Johnson Idles Wide Open. When You Finally Get It In Gear It Runs Fine Until You Near Neutral, Again Running Wide Open. Any Ideas. Motor Has Run Really Good All Season Until This Started Happening During My Last Fishing Trip.

Re: Johnson Idle Problem

Welcome to iboats. I think you have confused some, myself included. Not quite sure how you could have it idle at WOT? Maybe explain a little in more detail as to the symptoms you are having.

I think he is saying he can go to WOT in neutral, but not in gear, correct?

Re: Johnson Idle Problem

never run a motor in neutral wide open.

you are not putting a load on the motor and it doesnt tell you anything.
the only thing it could do is starting to "diesel"

the reason it stalls is probbebly dirty idle circuits in one ore more carburators.

if you idle it in gear and it wants to stall hit the primer and see if she picks up.

or you can take the airsilenser off and spray some premix trough the carbs one at the time and see wich carb is picking up.

also do a compression check.

Re: Johnson Idle Problem

I Left The Boat Ramp And All Was Well. Ran Great. After 2nd Stop Fishing, Motor Started Running Really Erratic. It Was Idling Very High And Then Would Simmer Back Down And Continued To Do This Until I Decided It Was Time To Go Before I Had To Call Sea Tow. Vro Johnson 130, Inline Water Separator, Fresh Fuel. New Spark Plugs This Year. I Could Not Get Throttle Back Into Neutral Until Motor Was Cut Off. At Boat Ramp I Had To Pull Spark Plug Wires Of Just To Get Motor To Cut Off.

Re: Johnson Idle Problem

make sure your linked and sinked and your carb inlet needles seat and not letting lots of gas into the carbs when not suppose to. I had a similar problem and a paint chip in the carb was a problem!
