Johnson Meteor

I just acquired a 100hp Johnson Meteor from a friend who knows nothing about boats. The motor is a late 60's model and runs well only its in need of a new started. Anyhow, I'm actually in the market for a smaller (50-60hp) 4 stroke. So my question is, are these Johnson Meteors worth anything?

I dont think they're worth that much. And at 10 gallons of fuel an hour at WOT they'd be darn expensive to run! But others will know the engine better than I.

They were state of the art in their day. Much more efficient than the 75-80 before them. The 4 barrel carburetor is a bit of a challenge since parts are pretty much obsolete and very expensive if you do find them. There are some pretty fancy gaskets in it. The battery CD ignition is OK when it works. Not as reliable as the newer motors though. You MUST be extremely careful when working on it and go by the book or you can make some $$$mistakes. The shift switch in the remote control is hard to find and costs a fortune.

Hmmm... weren't all outboards "state of the art" when they first came out?
