Johnson motor with Mercury controls???

I am looking at a Lowe L1648M jon boat with the side console option. Only problem is that it comes with Mercury controls. I have a 1988 Johnson 20 hp motor. Is there any way to make these controls work, or do I need to get Johnson controls? I am refering to the steering as well as throttle and gear selector cables.

Save yourself a lot of headaches and get the proper controls.

Steering might be adaptable, but the controls wouldn't be.
