Why is it so difficult to find part numbers, parts and schematics on the internet? I have been searching for a reputable scource for a factory service manual in electronic format to no avail. In fact, i asked my local dealer about a printed manual and he indicated that he can no longer get the mauals from direct sources and that he simply orders from the internet. He said he is not aware of a manual in electronic format. I really do not want a printed hard copy as it is much more convenient to have the pdf file on my phone. Does anyone know any reputable scource where an electronic version of a factory service manual for 1994 j25?

ChipnKim, I bought one for my '76 40HP Johnson engine on EBay. And it is the best manual you could even want. There is nothing about my engine that isn't covered in it. So search EBay and see... JMHO!

Google brand, yr, model number, and see what hits you get. Likely to find all kinds of pics, diagrams, etc.

Thanks for the input. Might just have to do ebay and tear the book apart to scan to pdf. I lost a water pump this weekend and searched for parts and i kept getting all these wierd domains like from Europe. If a simple water pump is only avaiable online from Europe, i don't really want one...

Try using a full correct model number and description, like 1994 Johnson 25 hp J25EERR. Google it. [h=1][/h]

Thanks OB1. (sorry, couldn't resist). I did do that type of search for j25 eler. Once i stumbled across a site with part numbers, the search was much easier. Found a couple of sites that i've bookmarked. I am new to boat ownership so I never realized what closely guarded secrets these manuals and part numberd are. But, i'm learning the tricks. I guess i've become spoiled when i search auto part inventories i am swamped with every schematic i could possibly need.

nah, no secret handshakes or funny hats. Google gets interesting hits on just about any model (or anything else for that matter). Try marine engine dot com for a diagram -- drill down to your motor/yr/model/engine system.

[do your auto parts through NAPA, yes? some of them maybe? anything out of the marine catalog, maybe -- like impellers for OMC?]

Part numbers are far from secret. Lots of places on the internet want you to order by part number. Manuals are a different animal, as people make money on their contents, so they do not want to give them away.

Paper manuals for you motor can likely be found at the marineengine web site, as well as other places. You will need to ante up some $ to get one. Electronic service manual do pop up from time to time, for free.
