I have a seahorse 4hp model bj4brccs 1988

took it out today on a 10 mile round trip, was fine on the way there (5miles) then after about 4 miles of the journey home it stalled.

I checked fuel was plenty in and the fuel filter on it was full.
but it would not start again.

The only method to make it start was to put the choke on then it would start and stall after 3 seconds, then choke off and it would start and idle but when put in gear and higher revs used it would just slowly gargle and stall like fuel had run out. it did this around 6 times before i gave up and rowed.

any suggestions would be appreciated i will be having a look at her in the next day or so and dont know where to start really cheers.

I assume you pumped the bulb on the fuel line. If it still acted like it did, it's not the fuel pump. I'd pull the carb and clean it well..

thanks for the reply, it has a built in fuel tank which leads to a filter then to the carb.
it has no primer bulb as far as i know on it anywhere.
but it has no cover over the carb air intake hole maybe something could of been sucked in?? I will take the carb off and clean it all tomorrow i hope that will fix it then

Sorry, I thought anything newer than '68 had a remote tank. Before you pull the carb, pull the fuel line at the carb and see if fuel will 'gravity feed' through the line when you open the fuel petcock. If it doesn't, you have a blockage between tank and carb. And use a full tank of fuel.. if it has a filter inside the tank, it may be gunked up at the bottom, and 'run out' of fuel before the tank is empty. Good luck!

had some things to do today so havent had a proper look, i did pull the pipe off the carb tho as it only takes a second and petrol was flowing through perfect. hopefully tomorrow i will have the carb off and checked over/cleaned see if that fixes it.
thankyou.
