I have a older style johnson motor, I have looked through website by website trying to match these numbers, I cannot seem to find out what year my motor is. It doesn't have a HIN but has a serial number. I've looked at post and its NOT the last 2 digits for the year. Any ideas ? Serial number is 17712059

BTW first post on iboats wooohooo

Thanks Brandon

Is there a metal plate on the transom mounts? It should have the model number on it. Where did the serial number that you posted come from?

1962-63 75hp.

Thank you I finally figured that out yesterday, Any Idea if these motors are good? Don't want to waste my time rebuilding it if
they have flaws. everything looks pretty clean and free, just some leaves and stuff around. I couldnt get it running in boat so I started to rewire it, but I believe Im going to get the repair manual so everything is there.

Re: Johnson SuperQuiet Elecramatic

Not my favorite engine. Has a belt driven, automotive style distributor, which really isn't bad when working, and there are worse setups. The distributor and rotor are still available new, but the stator does not look like it is available.
Fuel pump is available.
Electric shift is OK when working, bad when not; you must have the correct electric shift control box (throttle) for it.

If you could get spark without spending anything, the compression was good, and the electric shift was complete and worked, then I would give it a "maybe". To make it a good reliable runner would still take some effort from that point, as you would want to redo the wiring since the insulation of that era does not seem to be holding up well, make sure the lower unit was sealed well, and make sure the ignition system was perfect. The carbs and fuel pump should be rebuilt and all fuel lines replaced with alcohol-resistant lines.

I see that everything looks original, The throttle lines going back to motor are siezed, Im not sure if it'll be a waste of my time, If the start is bad.. Do they have replacements? if new isnt available. I dont want to have to be shopping around for parts, would rather just buy a different boat in that case. Is there a site I can jump on and see prices on parts?
