K_Gates.... Shifting from forward to reverse too fast will not shear a flywheel key. You'll tear a driveshaft in half first. What will shear a flywheel key is not torquing the flywheel nut properly.<br /><br />That nut, on that model, must absolutely be torqued to 105 foot pounds. Any less will result in a sheared key. The key must be installed so that the straight edge of the key is vertical with the engine... not aligned with the crankshaft taper!<br /><br />Now that the key has been sheared, it is important that the tapers of the flywheel and the crankshaft be checked thoroughly and cleaned of all defects before installing another key.<br /><br />This may not be the cause of the "no spark" problem, but it must be corrected before going any further.
