I have just acquired a Johnson V-4 outboard but I need some information on it such as year, fuel oil mix, compression, where to get parts, and any other information anyone can supply. If anyone has any idea I would also like to know about what type of fuel usage I can expect from this engine. The model number is V4ML-10R and the serial number is J2466921. Any information available would be greatly appreciated. Also I may be looking for a new foot for this one if I find that the engine runs good.

Thanks in advance
Robert

Also, is this engine the straight electric shift type or the hydro electric shift? I believe it is the straight electric but would like to be sure.

Thanks
Robert

V4m 10s = 90hp 1964, short shaft.
V4ml 10s = 90hp 1964, long shaft.
Don't know what the R stand for, some extra option ??

It's a electric shift unit, only use OMC "Type C " or "OMC Premium Blend" ( now Bombardier ) .

Some extra info here .

Re: Johnson V-4 need information

Droll, you are just full of information. I really appreciate it all. I have one that may stump you though. The boat that this motor is on is a Crownline. I cannot find any other information other than that name on the boat. Would you by chance know where I can find the HIN so I can register this boat or did they even have HIN back then? Best I can tell this is the original motor on the boat so I am assumeing the boat is also a 1964 model. Othe than needing a new floorboard the boat is in great shape. I just cant find anything on it as far as weight capacity, person capacity, hp rateing Hin, or anything. It has got me wandering if I will be able to register the boat or not.

Thanks
Robert

Re: Johnson V-4 need information

Great, I will check and see what I can find. I found a lower unit for this boat but it is a 1964 100hp johnson golden meteor lower unit. Mine is a 90hp but will that unit still work on mine?

Robert

Re: Johnson V-4 need information

What is the correct compression range for this engine? Or should I say, what is the range to still safely run the engine before it need a rebuild? I know it is 10% between cylinders but what is the overall range?
