Hi, I put a new battery in the boat marine deep cycle, My volt meter on dash on boat reads as high at 16 volts, but I check the battery with my digital meter and I am getting 13. 65 volts, this tells me that the volt gauge in not accurate, question : is there a way to test the volt gauge? or do you simply replace it? Thanks for any replys!!

Re: johnson volt meter

The meter on the dash is reading the voltage from the running engine. Are you taking the battery reading at the same RPM?

Yes, When I testing the volts with my digital meter, the rpm was the same this is why I think that the analog volt gauge on boat is not acurate!

Re: johnson volt meter

Read the voltage *from the terminals on the back of the in dash meter*, with an external meter. If they read differently at the exact same time from the exact same spot.. you have a bad gauge in the dash.
