Wondering about the "what if's" of using jumper cables to jump start one boat with another. Anything different than jumping a car? My motor is a 1987 88 Special with I believe the 9 amp charging system and a new 650 CCA marine battery. Thanks.
Not a problem if the usual precautions are taken and you have long enough cables. If you have a questionable starting battery, it's best to replace it. If you have a trolling motor you can also jump from that battery.
It will work, just realize the motor only puts out 9 amps above 4500 RPM or so,and will take HOURS of operation at that speed to make much difference in the battery. Therefore it won't restart on it's own before you run that fast, that long.
Thanks for the replies. Good point about the low charging rate. 9 amps is nothing compared to any automotive charging system. Wanted to know just in case myself or anybody else would need one jump-start so they could make it back to the boat ramp.

Careful with jump-starting on the lake. Odds are that the stalled boat with a dead battery has engine problems and the boater has run the battery down trying to restart. Odds are that it still won't start with your battery.
Two boats with dead batteries are worse than just one.
