The intermediate is broke at the screw that operates the tilt so it is useless.

... intermediate housing is completely broken? I can see it looks like worm gear is missing.

The casing for the trim where the worm is contained is broke the end broke off.

according to the omc info i found on this site it is a 1972. How do you tell if it is a 400 or a 800 intermediate unit?

Its not a 400 or 800, its an electric shift = totally different animal.

If you have the selectrim on the front engine mount, you've got the exact drive that I have in my boat.

Yes and the motor screw and bracket look alot newer than the rest of the engine.
