Just bought a New Tilt Motor?

I Just bought a New Tilt Motor, it actually controls the out board going uP & Down, It's called a Sierra? it's suppose to replace the Prestolite one I just removed with NO numbers left to read...hahaha on me, I just want to make sure I got the right one here, A lil paranoid as there was know one to speak with over the weekend?? So I ordered what I thought was the right one.. here are the 2 motors. I got the Sierra from this site, my dad says it's a high end Tilt Trim Motor?? There were some cheaper ones on Ebay for 55? but he said there not as good... I don't know much I 'm new new new to this, I'm actually a musician..lol I have a 3.0L OMC 1986 I was told... I never did get those manuals from the old owner.....Grrrr

As it turns out... This Sierra is the right motor for my 1986 replacement of the Prestolite with NO serial # left to verify. It did get stuck once or twice though? A simple turn of the Key Off Then On again seem to fix it, It also seemed to work better when the Tilt was set to uP on the tilt Gauge? What ever, as long as it works for the rest of the season... The boat is in the water this weekend for the first time!!! Thank God I'm excited... & Thank God the previous owner called and has the Glassport Manual and omc repair Manual for me!!!!

Glad it worked out for you.. There are lots of different ones. lots interchange but not all will work all the time.

Thanks for taking notice...haha, Ya I sure cant wait until I get those Manual's.....lol. I'm going to make sure and grease those pivot points I read about in another thread, before I use the motor again! I ran great on the muffs forward reverse so the next test is the water, Finally. My dad is a certified omc mechanic, he's been out of the country the last month though, so help has come from this site. Thanks.

Hey I'm seeing him Friday It will be the 1st time he really looks @ the boat.. I could ask him, I'm real Lucky to have him! I just greased the Pivot points man they were DRY!! Sure glad I read that other post about tilt motors..... And of course getting reminder text from Good ole Dad...lol And Thanks for the Good Luck I'm so looking forward to trying this baby out!!
