Just Courious About A Johnson

I have a 1987 Johnson 110hp V4 thats i'm having pretty good luck with-
My question is I've done a lot of reading here (as always) & the Johnson/Evinrude section & i seldom see them mentioned
Was the V4 110 shortlived? Problems & discontinued quickly?
My only "complaint" is i need to replace the rectifier & it cost about 5 times the average cost of other models espesially since it has T&T-
Just one my my "I Wonder Why" questions
