First post, first outboard motor project, although I know more than enough about small engines. Just picked this engine up for $100, needs rewiring because all of wire disintegrated as usual, im all over that. I just have a question about possibly missing parts? I've poured over parts diagrams trying to figure it out, but I just feel I'm missing something. there is a little nub/nipple just to the bottom right of the bottom carb (looking at the side of the engine with the carbs on your right), it looks like a fuel/air line or something should go on there but i cannot figure it out what or where it goes for the life of me. I'm also wondering how the throttle cable attaches to the throttle control arm, the cable just a metal stick that moves back and forth on the end, does it just push the spring loaded arm with nothing connecting the two? allowing the foce of the spring to push the control arm back down?
Part#29 is the nipple i dont know what to do with

Part#51 is the one i cannot figure out how to connect the throttle cable to

Any help is greatly appreciate, thanks guys.

Hello and welcome aboard! I tried to look at your links but they did not work. Could you take some pictures of your motor and what you are referring to and post them on here? I have the same motor and it runs great, hoping I can help you figure it out. I'll look at mine when I get home tonight and see if I can get an idea of your question but any pics will help greatly!

You can buy the original (used) service manual on ebay. All parts are shown in the parts diagram. The parts diagrams back through 1968 are posted on the web by BRP Evinrude and by SeaWay Marine, but for some strange and unusual reason this website does not allow me to link them by cutting and pasting.

Thanks for the quick replies. This picture shows what I'm lookin at. The nub is at the very bottom right of the photo, the little brass thing, does anything go on that? Also, Just above the starter solenoid you can see the throttle control arm, if there something on this in your engine that isn't on mine fishincondition? I've been using the parts diagrams from the websites, but it appears nothing is missing, which is what's confusing me. Yeah sorry I didn't know links dont work!

ok, here are some pics of my engine... looks like I am missing the "nub" you are referring to altogether. I may need to look into this myself:confused:

ok, sorry...apparently I didn't look very hard when I took the photos ... It looks like there is a tube that is supposed to be connected to it. it runs under the intake and I cannot feel where it goes short of taking my motor apart. I will look at the service manual and let you know.

Re: Just got a '69 Evinrude 55hp, a few specific questions

Thanks for all the pics, I'm in the middle of rewiring mine right now, did you do yours yourself?. So it looks like I'm missing a black bracket on the end of my throttle cable. I'll have to make a replacement to connect throttle cable to throttle arm. As for that tube, my guess is it is part of the air intake/vacuum system for the fuel pump, but I don't know where it goes either without a manual.

Okay so I don't need to worry about there being no tube on it? And yes I have since removed the duct tape and plan on replacing the cracked diaphragm
