Just gotta show you all what I found today. Not bad for 50 some years old. Thoughts?

I did not clean it. Just brought it home and took pics. Give me some feedback on how many hours you think might be on this one? Value?

Im putting in a request for one shot of it all together.

And pardon my French but holy crap that is a nice looking motor. I thought my FD-11 was clean when I brought that home. I dont think that hood was ever removed to allow a dirty finger to touch it inside. Great find.

And for the record, those are the best looking motors that where EVER made.

I'm gonna gues that it's spent more time getting moved around a garage than water. No wear marks in the usual spots from running (i.e. prop looks new, no grime under hood ect.) all the wear looks like is where it's been laid down or moved and scratched. I'd give it very close to mint.

Maintenance. Heck, its like new. I dont need to do no stinkin maintenance. This one might be moving on to a new owner that wants it more than I. HEHE You wouldn't believe how tight this motor is. Still snaps into gear, Most this age I have seen just fall into gear and the compression is like the day it left factory. Wow. Any idea of worth?

That motor is pure junk. I suggest you leave it by the curb side so I can come by and pick it up.:D:D:D

Just kidding.

Yea, she's not quite 60 some years old yet, but she is 50 some. Probably the best looking, unrestored Fleetwin in disquise I ever saw. It will most likely need an impeller, if it has sat unused for so many years, eventhough the paint looks fantastic. I would still check over the ignition system too. Lack of use can hurt machinery as much as excessive use.

Nice find. Let me guess.....25 bucks at a yard sale?

I've got the little brother to your motor in almost as good condition. I bought a 5.5 last summer that was in a bucket. But the cowlings and paint were near perfect! It head eaten a rod ("Well, the guy at the marina said it was fine to run 50:1!") so I rebuilt it with parts from a junker. And yes, they are one of the best lookers! I've got the 5.5, 10, 15, and 30 in my stable...

Found it sitting on a motor stand in an antique store. I did not even look under the hood until I got it home. But I knew it looked real clean. Got it home and pulled the cowling off and holy smoke, this motor looks almost unused. Since it was an antique store I did have to pay more than 25 but the booth owner did come down 50 bucks on it for me. It pays to dicker on price sometimes. You guys are funny with your comments. Keep em coming. Thanks, Mettyfish

$500. if running condition.
Water pump, carb float and coils are probably shot.
$80 in parts to fix it up.
Or sell as is.

As to value, it is worth more if left unmolested. But that means don't attempt to use it. Once you do the preventative maintenance required to use it, it becomes scratched and the value goes down.

EDIT: It would be interesting to see a picture of the side of the powerhead with the exhaust cover. If the paint is not burnt on the cover plate, it has NEVER been run.

The exhaust cover looks like it just rolled out of the factory. Sure would be interesting to know the true history of this motor and why did no one run it in all this time? I will try to get pic of that for you all. I thought I had all angles. What I think is cool is the starting instructions are still there right under where the pull start knob would slam back in and mess up the decal real quick. The bolts for the impeller lower unit are still untouched. Mettyfish

It's always tempting to sell things like that for a profit. If it were me, though, I'd replace the coils and fuel lines, put a new impeller in it, hang it on my transom and use it as intended.

Then, I believe, I'd sell my '92 Johnson 6hp and use the old-timer. It would just suit my style, and would probably outperform the 6hp to boot.

At the antique stores around here, the person running the store would probably have that priced at $750, and would have it for years. Antique store folks do tend to overprice things. I saw a beat-up old Flatfish lure in an antique store with a $25 price tag on it. Uff da!

Love it, my favourite colour scheme on those series of motors, not so keen on the green. It's a keeper for sure, more of a AOMCI show motor if you are into that sort of thing.

I have to retract one of my statements. I got confusilated and was thinking 5.5hp. The 7.5hp did not burn the paint off the exhaust cover like the 5.5hp did.

about 15 years ago i picked up a 5.5 exactly in the same condition and color scheme..I think it was a 1957 or 1958.

I remember it needed something...maybe a prop or a part in the lower unit...cant remember, but i fixed it...

I remember thinking how perfect the paint was inside the cover.....

I traded up a bunch of old motors for a 1985 30 hp!!
