Unfortunate that you were disturbed... but I have a lot of money... and the 'half my age hottie' that rides with me really likes it.

Tough noogies, pauper :D

Ya, we were camping in our boat once, about 5:30 the next morning (Daylight here) skiers were already hammering the airwaves with loud music and engines... I wouldn't do it but I'm old, I also understand we have to share the water.

Common around here to fire up big diesels at 5 AM and let them warm up. A few sailboaters with their windows open don't care for the perfume coming out of the exhaust.

A deisel isn't that bad...but those 4 thru hull pipes were rattling the windows. I thought we were at a NHRA event.

Hey, i heard there was some guy in Arizona who makes his whole family go tubing at 5:00 am!

Meanwhile, in suburbia, boats are being "pre-launch tested" on the muffs!

Yes and he runs his boat On muffs at 4:30am so he knows his motor will start at the ramp. This way this fool doesn't tie up the ramp with a motor that doesnt Start.
Who cares if he wakes up the neighbors with the rumble of the motor. Also this fool Preps his boat for hours before going to the lake and wonders if he is spending
more time preping then boating.

Oh and he is a Avid Vaseline user.

Now that's funny right there. I have been following both of those soap oper... Er I mean threads.

BTW my boat on muffs is nothing like those go fast boats with there through hull design.

This guy likes to bomb around Malletts Bay on Lake Champlain in VT when he's not bombing around the rest of the east coast.

Impressive the first time, but gets old fast.

He's racing to the fuel station before it closes!

Re: Just in case it was you...

Although I don't have thru-hull exhaust, at what point is it okay to disturb someone in the morning? Does a 2 stroke outboard heading out to fish? Does a sedan cruiser with twin diesels? Obviously the offshore go fast does.

I guess it begs the question, where is the line drawn with being able to use your boat, vs. being a bother and annoying to other boaters?

Just asking for discussion purposes.

I would imagine that there are local noise ordinances to consider. This would include both dB thresghholds as well as time of day. I believe where I live you can't play loud music for example after 9:00 pm. Not sure what defines loud.

I wouldn't mow my lawn much earlier than 10:00 A.M. even though I know me neighbors are up well before then. I will start my boat on muffs briefly in the A.M. before a trip (there is already another thread on that).

Re: Just in case it was you...

Good question.

I know I've pissed a few people off running my 3hp Gamefisher at 1am. Can't be helped all that much. I work second shift, I live on a boat at a private mooring. If its calm, I'll row out quite a ways, if its rough, especially with a headwind, not a chance.

Ok, I disturbed you trying to get home from work at 1am. You disturbed me at 8am when you drove right past me to go fishing. 8am for most people is like 3am for me.

***
Heres the official word on it for my lake.
"All engines must be muffled in order to reduce operating noise level to not more than 82 decibels on the A scale at 50 feet"

Says nothing about time of day.

Yep, they are everywhere. MTI's, Nor-Techs, Skaters, Fountains, you name it, we got it. And with Nauti-Marine just a mile away, they test them babies early in the morning when the water is as flat as it will get.

But since we live across from a boat ramp, we get to see a lot of heavy iron launched during the season. Geico turbine boat, Callahan, and one year, Miss Budweiser hydroplane.

But as to the OP, 5am seems awfully early to be revvin up those beasts when ya just got to bed.

And yes, we also have a noise ordinance, it just isn't enforced as a primary violation.

One last thought, there is going to be a Skater fest later this year so lots of eye candy and throaty exhausts for that week.
