Re: Just in case it was you...

the sound of a normal motor operated normally is just one of the sounds of the water. At my house, at dawn, when we have the windows open at night, I hear the crabbers picking up the pots, and neighbors heading out. At night, boaters returning home from an evening fishing or visiting friends. I love the sound. Same at a second place we share, right on the creek and no a/c, the locals head by early and it's a pleasing sound.

But that's not the same as jet skis wide open, boats flying, go-fasts, loud stereos and people shouting as they tube or whatever. Getting some of that during the day is also just life on the river (although luckliy, in both places, the jet skis and big speakers are absent).

A couple of nights ago my wife and I were on the screen porch eating supper (steamed clams and crabs from the river) and a neighbor across the cove let his outboard warm up longer than needed, but it wasn't a real nuisance. Just life on the river.

It's all about being considerate. We all enjoy a fast run or need to work on the motor at times; it's just courtesy as to when and where. Speakers blasting are never considerate; funny how they don't seem to catch on, or stick around, in my areas.

This is a fight that is not going to be won. Obviously, when it is somewhat avoidable it's considered courtious to be mindful of neighbors. No, it is not reasonable to mow your lawn, run a woodchipper, excavator, chainsaw etc at midnight or 5:00am.

But what about a diesal truck or Harley when leaving for work? Can I, or as stated earlier, a guy with a diesal boat, now not depart before 8:00am, or must we be forced to be in the marina before 10:00pm?

I'm sure it was annoying and I sympathize. however the alternative is unreasonable.

no, I don't own a loud, fast boat. Just a simple cabin cruiser.

Ya, we were camping in our boat once, about 5:30 the next morning (Daylight here) skiers were already hammering the airwaves with loud music and engines... I wouldn't do it but I'm old, I also understand we have to share the water.
First time I have heard an older person complain of young people getting up too early

It's all about perspective. If you live on/near the water, it is going to happen. Personally, I would MUCH rather hear a go-fast light up his big blocks or the turbos spooling up on a pair of cats in a sportfish than listen to some *** in a honda civic sharing his crappy taste in music next to me at a stoplight...or for that matter, the annoying whine of a jetski. But that's just me. If we didn't hear music in the sound of an engine, we probably would be sailboaters  God forbid :D

I'm with you; some sounds are pleasant to my ears, some aren't. I LOVE hearing Dave Scott and crew testing at Nauti Marine.....best alarm clock ever! On the other hand, the wah, wah, wah of a jet ski is like fingernails on a chalk board. Different strokes for different folks.

Bottom line is these are the sounds of the lake and we chose to live here. Have to take the bad with the good. Normally it's very peaceful, but on holiday weekends it's a madhouse. If I wanted peace and quiet we'd live out in the country instead of on the water, so sometimes I just have to grit my teeth and deal with it.

Living in GA, no it wasn't me, that being said, for those of you who don't know anything about Put in Bay it's usually just a bunch of drunks that moore their boats together. I know because i've been there many times, however I pay a little more and stay at the Crows Nest Marina, much more civilized.

I hear you. Typically we stay at Bass Haven, but we thought it might be cool to spend a Monday night at the Bay. It was a good time until BajaBoy woke my sleepin' a** up.

This guy likes to bomb around Malletts Bay on Lake Champlain in VT when he's not bombing around the rest of the east coast.

Impressive the first time, but gets old fast.

I don't hear anything at 5am, so fire 'em up boys! One of the things you've got to get used to when you live on the water on the Gulf of Mexico is lots of folks are a)retired, meaning Tuesday morning is no different than Saturday morning, and b)some of the best fishing takes 5-6 hours to get to (the middle grounds) so lots of them fire up and leave at all times of night/morning whichever it's called. Like some have said, it comes with the territory. I guess if I complained about it then it would be the same as whining every time someone put a golf ball in my yard if I lived on the right side of a fairway on any golf course. It's part of the whole experience.

I've heard they find a lot of unmanned watercraft in your neck of the woods, never claimed. Hmmm, Makes me wonder why the crab and clams grow so big. ;):D

I live about a half mile north of a small lake and I hear the jet skis all day long, sound like giant mesquitos. It's a good thing I don't live on the lake. My Ott6 might not stay in it's case.

Awe, we all have our little challenges, around my place in the fall at the crack of dawn it sounds like the 5th infantry lighting up the woods, I think some of these hunters carry howitzers to hunt deer and elk with!
