Hi
I have an 84' evinrude 70 hp. that just keeps running. Doesn't die with the kill switch or key. Is there a blocking diode I should be looking for? & where might it be? Thanks

There's a black wire with a yellow stripe that runs to the powerpack - that's the kill wire. Normally, turning the key to off (or pulling an emergency lanyard) grounds the kill wire and prevents the ignition system from firing.

See Off diagram here: http://www.maxrules.com/graphics/omc_pics/REMCONTBOX.jpg

There's no diode in the kill wire.

Not in my wiring diagram. Your going to have to back trace the wire going back to the powerpack, black and yellow, sounds like a break in the wiring. I'd say check grounds too but for both not to work it sounds more like the black and yellow wire. Pull the large red plug apart and check for corrosion, you can back trace from the red plug.
