Outdrive side. Water got in past your leaking u-joint bellows. The drive shaft likely got corroded and took out the driveshaft seal. Did you drain the gear oil yet? Likely water in it too.

Is the cat going to help? Yup outdrive side . . . You can check out my "milky oil from outdrive" thread for some idea of what you might be in for. But it looks like you will be replacing the driveshaft seal . . . In the process of doing that, you will be draining and viewing the outdrive oil for water or milky appearance. You will be able to inspect the driveshaft bearings. Putting it all back together, you will need to set the rolling torque on the driveshaft bearings. Parts will be $175-200 ish . . . Tools will be $200-225 ish. Make sure you do not leave the outdrive short of oil or un filled for any lengthy time as the bearings may develop surface rust, since they may have seen water, etc.

i just ordered an upper seal kit. havent drained the oil out yet. im about to go try to get the bearing off the shaft, the u joint just has surface rust, it moves 100% smoothly

Generally there should be no water unless you add water (wet skiis, etc.)

my searay had a shallow well under the drain tube that ran back to the bilge pump so it would drain. only the little 4" x 4" x 1/2" deep well kept any water in it. I mopped that out with a sponge after a day of water sports.

if you have water in the bottom, find out where its coming from. And yes, you can prod with a snake drain, however I prefer a piece of plastic tubing. Snake drains are generally nasty and havent been cleaned for a while

Spanner wrench and dial torque wrench . . . plus bearing puller, if you are doing the gimbal bearing . . . So, maybe $250 in special tools . . . but other than that, none whatsoever. :thumb:

the water is coming from the torrential downpour weve been having, i just wasnt sure if it was typical for there to be a small about that doesnt drain out. i know the drain is working, just not sure how well it is

looks like im gonna be $4-500 in parts at this point
bellows kit w/ gimbal bearing
lower seal kit
upper seal kit
impeller
exhaust flappers

also replacing the bilge pump and doing a full engine tuneup just for piece of mind. should be able to get it in the water including purchase price for $4k

ive got a good bit of tools, and have a friends friend who is a mechanic at a marina who will either lend me the tools i need, or do all the work that involves tools i dont have for $2-300 im gonna do as much as i can without using him as a resource to keep costs down though

thanks! i learned the hard way on my corrado so now i try to avoid all the headaches i put myself through with everything else i do, i thought i would be able to come up with a way around the spanner wrench, but i was wrong lol im not gonna risk damaging it so im gonna grab one of those. untill then i am at a standstill for the most part. my impeller came, but im not gonna put it on till the rest of the lower seal kit arrives so i can take care of it in one shot. might try and get the bellows started tomorrow evening after work.



the PO said the cover was ripped so he took it off.......only the front section that covers the bow is ripped, the whole back half is perfect. so i put it back on to offer as much protection as i can



and last night my wife was showing her sister and friend the boat.... which somehow turned into a boat party in the driveway, and i **** you not, they ordered pizza and had it delivered to the boat.....

Good Lord, you are really making some progress!!

Gets the boat, Tears into the boat, Driveway Boating before the boat hits the water, WELL DONE!!

Driveway Boating is actually really common, just be careful where you place the lawn sprinkler and beware that the sun actually is just as bright in your driveway as it is on the lake so Sunscreen is just as important!!

Don't get discouraged by how much changing the bellows sucks! I did that just a few weeks ago. Just be patient. Everything is just hard to get to in there.

When my seal blew out, I didn't realize it and I stripped out my upper gears, so I just bought a used outdrive off of craigslist. It was only $200 and came with the prop that was on it. You could check craigslist for a used one prior to repairing your current one. You have to make sure the outdrive comes off of the same size motor though (same gear ratio).
