Hi all,

I just picked up a 'new to me' 1988 Oil Injected 60HP Mercury. It looks to be in great condition. Can someone verify this serial number for me? It looks to be OB240314 or perhaps O8240314.

There is supposed to be an oil tank that is external to the engine. I do not have one but was wondering if its possible to just run this with Pre-Mix. The mechanic I bought this from said 'yes' and all I needed to do was plug up the inlet where I would normally hook up the tank. I asked if this would hurt the oil pump. He stated that this oil injection system worked off of suction and that it just needed to be plugged. I wasn't sure if that sounded right or not because I read somewhere about burning out the oil pump if you just bypassed the oil tank so I thought I would ask. Do I just need to plug the hole?

Any help greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Shane
