I just got what I think is a sweet deal on a mint 1995 Johnson 85 horse( J85TTLEO). It has the VRO oil injection system. The seller said that the pump is the latest version available. Is this a dependable system? I have heard lots of people disconnect them and mix manually, but I would like to use it. What are some opinions on this system? Thanks

You should have no problems with the system you have. It is a very reliable system. Be sure you bleed the oil system according to the owner's manual when you mount the new engine. Since it is a new engine for you and you do not know the pump operating condition, I would suggest putting oil in the gas, as well as the oil tank. Check the oil tank level periodically during your first few trips out. If the oil tank level goes down, then discontinue putting oil in the gas tank. It will smoke a lot, but will prove that the oil pump is working properly.
