I've been told before by some that you can't insert pistons before attaching to crankshaft. Baloney, and here's proof.

1. picture of 4 pistons attached to the crankshaft.
2. picture of #1 piston connecting rod before cage bearings.
3. picture of half cage bearings assembled.
4. picture of crankshaft journal rotated in place with other half of cage bearings.

I love it when people say, "You can't do that"!

Good Job.

Did you have the block decked? I see cutter marks.

Decked, surfaced, milled, machined........ Or are those the factory cutter marks.

This is how you tighten 1 of the nuts on the rod bolt. You can access it thru the transfer port. Don't tighten all the way, just snug, then rotate crankshaft to access the other side. Be careful not to drop the nut tho. By this point the powerhead is pretty heavy to be turning upside down. Then tighten the rest of the way down by rotating the crankshaft back to access the other nut.

Factory. I did mill the cylinder block cover side myself tho. It was pretty ugly and needed it to seal correctly. Besides those, I used a hone stone to flatten and clean the sealing faces of everything.

There was bad corrosion everywhere. Must've been a salty. Needless to say, it made things more interesting.

I'm especially proud of this modification. As I was trying to get the retainer ring loose from the badly corroded exhaust plate, the whole piece broke off. So I drilled the hole bigger to accept a 1/2 - 3/8 reducer and press fit it into the hole. That sucker will not budge. Then bent and sweat a 1/2" pipe down to the water pump. Works like a charm. Down right ingenious if I say so myself :D
