keel gaurd replacement/removal

My keel guard was prettty dinged up when I bought the boat and has only gotten worse since I have had it. SO I want to replaace it, my question is what kind of solvent do I use to remove it and the glue residue that I know will be left on the hull?

Any tricks or ideas would be most appreciated.

You could try a heat gun but be careful with that. I have had great success with goof off. You can buy a gallon at the big box hardware store.
