I was wondering what to expect out of the various keel protectors (keel guard, keel shield, etc.)in terms of long term durability and wearability. I'm a little concerned about being stuck with a protector that may in itself develope scrapes cuts etc. that may effect performance and appearance. And which protector may be the more durable in that regard. Any response to this will be appreciated.

cap I do not know yet I did buy one but not warm enough to put on. Hull temp. and air temp. have to be aleast 70 deg. prep is everything all I talk to that use them say they will never run a boat without them I beach my boat all the time and I did some keel repair so thats why I am putting mine on. Not recomended for boats that sit on trailer rollers.

They're tough, and if you want one to keep on looking perfect, don't bother putting one on. It's a sacrificial thing. You WANT that to get damaged. Better than damaging want it's protecting. You mount it in front of the planing surface, so there is no effect on performance.
