keep losing ground on engine - I think

I have a 1991 90 hp Force I cannot get running.
I have 110 PSI compression in all cylinders,
Good spark in all three plugs.

When I try starting it , after a few tries I loose the ignition system,
Turn the key nothing happens, I checked the neutral switch and was in neutral and working properly.
checked the voltage to the start wire, nothing, but when I disconnected it from the connector board
there was 12 volts.

I thought that the problem was the ground to the connector board,
ran a extra ground from under the solenoid to the ground on the connector board,
this got it working again, for a little while, then the same thing happened again.

No voltage to the starter, even the choke does not work when I push in the key.

Any ideas ? Is it a grounding problem or a short ?

If I read you correctly it sounds like a bad switch or a "popping" circuit breaker. Next time it happens, try jumping the switch from red "B" to "S" terminal If the engine cranks and starts, it is a bad switch. If it still does not crank, then a bad solenoid is a suspect.

Thanks for the fast reply....
I don't think I am explaining it very well.

Checked the breakers and they are fine and not tripped.

Switch sends power when in start position, tested it 12 volts when turned on..
when the yellow start wire from the switch is disconnected from the connector board (were all the wires go to from the switch)...

BUT when I hook it back up, it looses voltage.

What I mean is checking at the solenoid I get 0 volts from the multi meter.
Also the choke doesn't even get voltage but is fine if I disconnect from choke and test full 12 volts.

Check the fuses under the dash? Go thru and tighten all electrical connections.J
