hey all, have spent the last few months fixing up a 1996 regal 176se valanti. Boat has sold floor, stringers and transom. (Tested by drilling cores) also cored the foam which was nearly dry-a bit of water in last inch or so but not waterlogged. Replaced motor mount, new gimbal and bellows all around, all ready to go when I finally notice that the drive it came with, which had been sitting in the corner of the garage is a Gen 1 alpha, not a gen 2! Been planning on getting an SEI, but a basket case 2003 maxum 1800 sr has fallen in my lap for a song with a good drive and motor. Transom has been replaced. Now I’m faced with a dilemma, take the drive and part out the rest of the maxum, or part out the Regal and keep the maxum! Maxum is 7 years newer, slightly larger and interior is in a bit better condition (I have a sailrite and was planning on redoing the regal interior). However, I suspect the regal may be a better built hull.

Thoughts?

Uhhhhhh Maxum is gone and they were just an upscaled Bayliner. They were known to have construction issues. It's your wallet and the boats will be flooding the markets soon.
