Key switch wiring to 2005 Mercury 9.9 4-stroke

The above motor was set up for electric remote start but I didn't get harnesses or key switch with it. I replaced solenoid. I got a harness but not sure if it is for Mercury, even though description and part # is same. Has 7 pins. See pic. Got a key switch asy. There is no yellow/red wire on motor. I can bypass solenoid and it fires up, but when I use switch nothing happens. See more pics. Voltage is good all around and I get 12vdc on yellow/red on the switch. I get continuity to ground on the right hand bolt that goes to starter. Could that be the issue, but why?

Finally got it to work. Turned out to be an insufficient ground.
