Keys for Mercury Control

I purchased a used control (1990 vinatage)that does not have a key. Is there any way to get a key without replacing the switch?<br />Thanks

Welcome to iboats.<br /><br />I believe that has the current style key. There are a dozen possibilities. The keys are numbered 1 or 2, A thru F (1A thru 2F). If a 1A fits but doesn't turn, you need a 2A. The letter corresponds to the grooves and the numbers correspond to the teeth. Most Merc dealers have a set of the keys for their shops, sometimes people forget to leave their keys. I'm sure one can help you out.

If you remove the switch from the control the key number is printed on the switch barrel.<br /><br />Chris............
