Re: Kid Rock @ Boyne
Ok, I can't believe I've hung on this board for over 4 years and THIS is the first thread I've actually commented in...
Why in the heck do people actually open and then comment in a thread about a singer they do not like? I don't get it. Do people get off on bagging on something or someone just because others are excited about said thing? If I see a post about someone all excited about their new pontoon boat I don't open it up and immediately say "Blah, I hate pontoon boats!". Seriously, why waste the time it takes to type such a response? Apparently some people have more time on their hands than others. For those complaining about his sampling some of the classic songs perhaps I can explain the rational and it has nothing whatsoever to do with originality. After all his original music was one of the forefront artists to bring this country out of grunge (we should all be greatful! ;-)). He is singing about his youth. It's a nostalgic song that brings back memories for those of us in that generation. I grew up in northern Michigan listening to those same songs so when hear his mash-up of classics blended with his gravely voice and style it takes me back to another time. If others can't see or understand that...
Anyway, I'm from Boyne (although I live in Grand Rapids during the week) and my house is 4 miles south of Boyne Mountain. Up until 4:30pm Friday I hadn't decided whether I was going to the concert or not. You see, if you're from Boyne Falls you just can't miss the Polish Festival! I'm serious - I'm not Polish and I'm not related to anyone who is, but the Polish Fest IS Boyne Falls. I ended up going to the beer tent that night instead of the concert. I've seen Kid Rock at small local clubs in GR and other outdoor venues so one missed can't hurt. As for crowd size - there weren't 8000 people there, there were 11,000! For a town of 3000 plus the added tourists and ex-locals in town for the Polish Fest it was crazy. I was coming home from the beach at 6pm and ended up taking the two-tracks past the Mountain from the north side to get to my house south of Boyne. It doesn't even get that crazy at St. Patty's day! Gotta love it! I find it totally cool that he comes to Boyne every year to play an outdoor concert. His house on Torch Lake and his flotilla of boats doesn't hurt his "up north" rep either.
