Kill Switch question..

I just bought a boat with a 1990 90 horse mercury, this is the first boat I have had that has a kill switch on the controls. Probably a dumb question, but how do I get the kill switch strap back on where it is suppose to go? I pulled the kill switch strap out, and it looks like there is a little bar where the strap goes back on at, but I don't wanna mess something up, getting the strap back onto the control box.

That chrome lever is nothing more than a simple toggle switch. Place the plastic loop on the end of the lanyard back over the lever and push the lever up. Pull the lanyard a few times while watching the lever and you will see what's going on. It acts just like a light switch if you tied a loop in the end of a piece of string and looped it over the light switch. Pull down and switch turns off. Same deal with your boat.
