Re: kill switch

+1. I put one of these on all of my vintage motors and never operate my motor without one, especially if I'm out alone. They're cheap, easy to install and work just as advertised. They let you keep the push-button kill function you already have in addition to the giving the security of the lanyard. Best of all, you can dock/beach the boat, remove the lanyard and take it with you while on land. It essentially acts like a key, so no pirates can take your boat while you're away. When you return to the boat, pop in the lanyard and Voila! "Bob's your uncle" and off you go. Best $10 (7 quid?) you can spend.

Re: kill switch

cheers for that, I'm going to order one now, I fish alone in a 3m sib and it has been playing on my mind, it's my first boat and I want to do it right, I have been on to the cost guard today because I want to use chest waders for when I put the boat in from the beach so I asked then about a life jaket should I fall in and the waders fill up and they are ringing back tomorrow, but I am not going out again without the kill cord

Smart man slate. The lanyard (aka Dead man's switch) is a must have. Not only will it stop the boat should you fall out, which will allow you to crawl back in more easily, it will also give you passengers some piece of mind should you go overboard. Nothing worse than a runaway boat with scared/helpless passengers on board. You can even buy extra/replacement lanyards. That way your guest can pop the spare lanyard in place, fire up the motor and come back and get you if need be. It's like keeping a spare key in your car. Here's a vid in case anyone doubts the need for one. It's kinda funny, but not really.

Re: kill switch

The Sea Dog universal fits well into the hole of the standard OMC kill switch. I've used a few of them on various engines (9.5, 9.9 and 15) with no real concerns. Best of luck. Rick.
