OIL IS TOO CHEAP.

Until the price is ramped-up, there will never be any altenatives....and the world desperately needs altenatives. Just imagine the problems that would be solved 'overnight'.

Oil Companies are probably more socialistic than Socialists.
Believe me, if I had a monopoly on the supply of oil, you'd be paying a whole lot more, and if you didn't like it, then change to an alternative, or go 'cold' and ride your pusher to work. It is called 'free market'.

I'm know this shows ignorance, but why do you guys use heating oil? It gets cold in south LA (I've been told it feels colder down here than even in Colorado even though temps don't reflect it) and we just use electricity.

I've always wondered.

WITF, Oil heat is probably the hottest heat there is. We know it gets cold down south, but when it gets cold in the north,,,,,,well it stays there and it doesn't let up for months. Even here in Ohio, I have seen natural gas have its problems when extreme cold hits. Oil too will gel in the tank if the tank is outside. However there is additives that can be added to prevent gelling. Mine is inside, so I don't have that problem.

I have an option where I live to get natural gas, but it seems like the price is soaring in that also. Meanwhile,,,,,I'll keep burning my sticks.

92 cents a liter for home heating oil up here in the frosty north..thats pretty pricey and I think a change to electricty is in the works for me.
I heat 950ish sq/ft (2 x 6 walls with R20 and R60 in the roof) and it cost me about $1000 per heating season and we set the thermostat to 60f at night and while we are gone...only 68 f when home unless my wife complains then 70 f.

We are on a lake so geothermal is a possiblity if the price ($13000) comes down (a lot)... a switch to elcetricty will cost use about $2000....

Just some perspective from Canada.
