Well, one head is shot. The shop says I can use a a head off of any Chevy 305 of the same vintage. Is this true? I can get my hands on car parts pretty easy.

From what I'm reading, I'll be getting a head tonight from a 305. Nothing different from auto to marine for heads as far as I have read.

Seems 305's with Vortec heads aren't as easy to find as I thought. This is staring to be no fun.

The problem is there were very few vehicles made with 5.0L engines. Way more with 5.7L. In trucks, the only years that has vortec heads were going to be 1/2T 1996 through 1998.

There are some on eBay!

I take it you have talked to local auto salvage yards?

I have been to most local salvage yards. I'm still on the hunt.

I took Sat and went to the south side of Chicago. To the only just yard I could find that had the head I need. That's a 65 mile drive I don't want to do often! It's all together and runs great. I now have an alarm. When I pull the wire off the oil pressure switch it stops. A gage in that spot reads between 40 and 70 psi. I'll be trying a new switch in the next few days.

Running like a dream. No water in the oil, starts right up, no vibrations and no knocking noise. My tach isn't working now, but I'm sure I just left a wire off or something easy. I'm now a happy boater! Thanks for all the help guys!
