L&S Torque Shift Prop Question

Bondo (or anyone else im my situation),<br /><br />My shift prop is great when it works perfectly, but lately I have been fighting with it quite a bit. <br />As I mentioned in my earlier threads, I have to basically cavitate the boat in order to up-shift (due to lack of adequate power/weight ratio), but it rarely goes all the way back down to the lower pitch when stopping. Also, most recently I have been noticing a heavy vibration from inconsistent shifting between the blades! I put my aluminum prop on to verify, and it is definately the prop.<br /><br />What CAMS are you using on your shift-prop with your 4.3? I am currently running the ZZ CAMS (mildest ones) with the weakest springs (suggested by L&S) since the boat is 2400# dry, and the 4.3 is 175 HP. <br /><br />Maybe the steeper CAMS or springs would provide more positive results?? I think once I upgrade the engine to Vortec 4-bbl, I'll be able to use other CAM/Spring combinations...<br /><br />Thanks!

I really Don't remember Which cams I'm running,....<br />I'm running the 45lb. springs,.. I Troll with mine,+ Want it to Stay in low gear Longer......<br /><br />It sounds like you may have picked up some Sand or something....<br />Maybe you should pull it down for Inspection,+ Cleaning............<br />I Docked instead of trailered My boat this year,+ I noticed it shifted Harder,.. Both Up,+ Down,....... <br />No Doubt from the Critters living in/on it..............

I too have had problems getting my prop to upshift. Sometimes, it won't shift at all. I have a Chevy 350/ alpha One. I run the ZZ cams too, with the lightest springs.<br /><br />Last I called **** at L&S, he said to run some anti-seize lube on the cams to help the pins slide along. I put in the anti-seize, but never bothered re-installing the prop to check it out. It does appear to shift easier on my bench though.

Bondo,<br /><br />I want to eventually install it again to check the shifting, but I have to unbolt my hydro foil because it definitely prevents it from shifting. If I never get it worked out right to shift right, it'll go for sale.<br /><br />I do have a set of Z cams that I don't use, I am using the ZZ cams. The Z cams let my motor over-rev on initial WOT. The ZZ cams keep it to about 4800, unless the torque shift doesn't shift, then it goes up rapidly from there.<br /><br />I am in the process of installing a MPFI sytem right now, and will re-check after that. If I do decide to sell, should I consider offering you before ebay?

I was able to get some springs, but that was about it. I wanted a new set of cam guide pins (or whatever they're called) but Richard said they don't make them anymore.<br /><br />Bondo, if you want a set of good "Z" cams, shoot me an email, I'm sure we can come to an arrangement:<br /><br />Adamborz@aol.com
