I made a bonehead mistake, and laid my Yamaha 4 stroke 8hp on its side (opposite tiller) for about an hour, and noticed a pool of oil from the cowling.

After noticing the leak I put my kicker back on my boat, and spent the next hour or so cleaning up all the oil I could.

How hosed am I? Should I just top off the oil, and try to start my outboard?

I can't believe I did something so stupid. :( :( Any input on fixing the problem I caused?

Thanks for any advice,

It's no big deal, pull the sparkplug and crank on the engine a few times to clear the cylinder(watch out for oil spraying from hole) and clean the plug, put back in and check oil level, then fire it up....Yamaha actually had an incorrect sticker that told you to lay the motor on wrong side on it's 15 I think, so it's happened a lot.....

Thanks, Your right everything was just fine. Had a little oil in the carb, but after draining it the motor fired up in an instant. :) I just got a little sideways when I read massive damage could occur from this kind of thing. (read in manual)
