Labor day is coming and my wife wants to take the boat out since it is also our anniversary. This sounds like a bad idea to me, but what the wife wants..... At least this is a large lake, but I still think smart boaters stay home Labor Day. What do ya'll think?

I haven't been to Whitney on a holiday, but there is no way you would get me on any of the other lakes around here on Labor Day or any other holiday.

That is the way I am. Come Labor Day, I will be sitting under the shade of my awning at the campsite listening to all the idiots on the water.

That's what I believe too. Laughing at all the congestion seems to be the best idea rather than being a part of it. My wife got us reservations at the Hampton Inn in Hilsboro for $29 a night for the whole weekend. (Employee Discount). I think we'll take the boat and see what happens. If it's congested I can get the boat back to the hotel in 10 minutes.

Well, The boat ran fine. Put enough hrs on it in three days to feel comfortable taking it almost anywhere. Only malfunction was once I killed my motor and something continued to make noise????? After I started it up and killed it again the noise stopped. I think it was probably the starter getting a little voltage for some reason. Sounded like a bilge pump but it was coming from cowling. Luckily it ceased.

As far as over crowding, there weren't too many people. There was alot of boaters North of the bridge, but South was pretty comfortable.

Here's the kicker! DAY 1 was a near disaster. The kids didn't want to fish so I dropped em off near a ROCKY area bordering a swim and play area and told em I'd be back in a few hours. My wife and I were pulling the anchor up to go pick the kids up when we felt a few drops of rain. The forecast was Sunny by the way. Almost instantly it was pouring hard. The rain actually hurt on contact. We hurried to the pick up point and tried anchoring again so the kids could run out and get in. There was no way I was taking the boat to land there cuz it was all rock (I'd of hurried somewhere else but I needed the kids for their safety and possible abandonment issues). The wind was too much so I had to jump out and keep the boat from slamming int the rocks and other boats. Many were abandoning there boats using bow and stern anchors but a few of them didn't hold and they were on top of each other. The kids were in pure terror and I felt like I was about to learn a new definition of "sunk costs". Where did this freak storm come from? I eventually was able to get the kids in and push safely away from rocks and get away from that place bfore the boat began to hit again. Almost instantly, the rain stopped. We quit for the day anyways. I broke a mounting bracket for a transducer, but we're all alive. If that were too happen again, I'd just leave the kids for later and back in somewhere sandy. I guess I just assumed that it wasn't going to stop.
Day 2 and 3 were nothing but fun.

Went down to the ramp here Sun. eve. to watch the funnies! thier were 5 boats on the water! 22000 acre lake with 3 places to launch from and only 5 boats on the water! Something must be wrong with the economy!

We had one of the best weekends of the season. We got about 5 minutes of rain on Thursday, then blue skies & 80?+ the rest of the weekend.

We launched in Fond du Lac at the south end of Lake Winnebago on Thursday afternoon and ran up to Oshkosh. Tied up at Riverside Park/Leech Amphitheatre and went to see Alice Cooper in concert. The man puts on one of the best stageshows out there.

Friday, we ran all the way up the Wolf River to Fremont and hung out on the sandbar on Partridge Lake. Actually saw my old boat still running around.

Saturday, we headed further up river to a spot called Nipple beach. There was a bigger crowd than I've seen before.

Sunday, it was back down the river to Lake Poygan to hang out at the Weedbeds. Lot's of boats there too.

Saw this beauty. 1961 Carribean V-drive with a 289 Corvette motor.

Monday morning we hit the wall and decided to head home.
After 45 gallons of gas, 120 miles, 4 days & 4 nights on the water, we were just wiped out.
