The motor will die after a minute or so when your running at full throttle, half throttle is fine. Both low and high pressure pumps were replaced and the fuel filter. There are no pressure gauges, but, the bulb is firm. we checked the hoses for leaks. Anyone have any thoughts.

Thanks,
Bob

Has the water pump impeller been replaced recently? It may pump at slow speed, not at WOT.

I can assume that if the engine overheats, the systems shuts down? If so, than will disconnecting the cylinder head temp switch bypass the problem for a quick test? It is possible that the impeller may be bad. The motor was not used for five years and had low hours to begin with. It did run good for several weeks.

Thanks for your response,
Superskate

Just check the temp of the cylinder block on top between the flywheel and the cylinder head when it starts to act up. If you can't hold your hand there for 4 or 5 seconds its too hot (should be less than ~163 degrees F and you need to check the cooling system.

I went and check out the motor yesterday. It turns out to be a 87 220 Laser XRI EFI. The oil mix tank runs out of fuel. The low pressure pump is new and the boat had the same problem before it was replaced. The bulb was hard and I could not pump it until the engine was cranked. The fuel lines are clear and the water seperator is also new. Any ideas on were to go next?

I finally found the problem. Even through the Low pressure pump was new, it wouldn't deliver engough fuel at WOT. I'm assuming that there are seals that are weak in the motor. I jerry rigged a small electric pump in place of the Low Pressure pump and the engine runs great. I'll put an approved electric replacement on. Thanks for all your help, you guys have been great.

Superskate

This gets even better. In order to put the electric pump in, I had to remove the old low pressure pump. I found that the two screws that held the pump together were a few threads too long. They hit the bosses on the block causing a vacuum leak around the gasket. This was a new factory assembly.
