Late Envirude keeps flooding

Hi, I have a late Envirude outboard. The problem is that it keeps flooding when I take it out. When I start it for the first time in the day, it's fine but for the last 4 times when I start it again the engine cranks but doesn't fire, and it would take something between 4-10 tries before it fires again. I take the fuel cord out and place my finger on the fuel inlet of the outboard and I can feel petrol leaking out, and correct me if this is wrong, this can't be normal! So I keep on trying and trying and soon and after a while it starts. For the past 4 times I've taken the boat out this has happened and thank God that it starts after a while, I am worried that next time I am not going to be that lucky. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Please post the model number of your engine, Zane.

Welcome!!<br /><br />First tell us what motor you have. The model number will tell us. Then describe your starting proceedure exactly. It would be helpful to know what plugs youre using, if the motor has been sitting and what work has been done since the last time it started correctly.

Yeah sorry for the lack of information, I am not real sure of the exact model of the engine, I am just sure that it's a late 70s 90HP Envinrude outboard, is this enough information. I can try and find out more information if required. My starting procedure is that I make a couple of pumps on the fuel cord (not too sure what the name of it is) to get the pressue up. I then raise the choke to the START position, and start the engine, it starts perfectly for the first time, everytime. I push the lever into the RUN position and take off. There are 3 positions on the lever, START, IDLE and RUN. I've never had to put it in IDLE, when and why should I use the IDLE position? When we get to our fishing spot, I stop the engine and we fish, then when we decide to move, I perform the same actions, I put the lever into the START position and try to start it again, and for the last 4 times it won't start until after 5-10 go's, the last time was around 20 I reckon. BUT the strange thing is, this doesn't happen again for the rest of the day no matter how many times we stop and start the engine, i.e. for the rest of the day, it starts just fine. I think the only thing I have change or done differently since this problem started was using a different fuel mix. Could this be it? Dhadley, what plugs are you referring to? The boat probrably sits for around a week or 2 before I take it out again. Thanks for all your quick replies, much appreciated.

Lets get the model number since OMC didn't make a 90 in the 70's. That way we can be sure of what we have here.<br /><br />

What lever are you talking about? Is it on the motor or on the control?
