Invite a friend to come along boating or fishing. It's usually pretty easy to fill an empty seat on a boat.

I would just take drive down there, probably on a Saturday evening would be best, and see what others are doing. Me I have never had an issue with rock shores but I have always had tin boats. There is a guy who lauches where I launch and he had some kind of rubber skid put on the bottom of his boat. Might be something to look into.

Called a keel guard. Great, but ain't worth a darn in the rock hits anywhere else on the hull.

Launch, pull boat off to side of ramp with bow rope, push out a little with bow facing land, put stern power pole anchor down with remote, tie off bow to land, go park. Raise power pole, pull boat in, get in over bow, push away and go.

Sounds like you need a keel strip or a old rubber mat.

Both of these things give you the ability to beach in places where most glass boats dare not travel.

I use 2 ramps that have no pier, one is at the end of my road and the other is on the river. Cold water is no fun, high winds are no fun, high water and fast current on the river is no fun.

My solution for this year is to change to a power winch with wireless remote. This way I can retrieve at least w/o getting out of the boat. Advantage I have is that the area around the ramp is soft bottom and I can at least beach it for the time it takes to move the trailer.

Thread may be, yet the topic is still current as soon the season and the water will be openning up in many areas and as usual I'm certain we will see this topic repeated and repeated again.

Re: launching by yourself with no dock

I keep my boat on a mooring and the ramp has no dock. There is a dock about 100 feet away. There is a dinghy we can use from that dock to our boat on the mooring. What I do is this: I take my personal dinghy and tie the community dinghy to it and paddle out to the mooring. I tie mine off at the mooring and leave it there. Then paddle back in the community dinghy. Next I back my boat down, get the stern floating and start it up. I drive it over to the mooring and use my dinghy to paddle back and part the Jeep and trailer.
This system could work for you if you could have a mooing installed if you want to leave it in the water and there is a place to lock up a dinghy on the shore. You can use a kayak, a small 8' dinghy, etc. So we keep the FW on the mooring the whole summer (its bottom painted) and on the beach I have 2 Walker Bay dinghys locked up, and one we have a Suzuki 2.5 hp outboard for if we don't feel like rowing, but most of the time I take the lighter 8' dinghy and just row it (takes 5 min from shore to the dinghy). Sometimes if I don't feel like taking the FW out we put the Zuk on the 10 footer and blast round the harbor in that.
