I have a keroseon shop heater, a Lawn Boy porta heat 150. The fan works but it will not ignite to heat. It will spit out a white fog that smells strong of fuel, and will spit out drops of raw fuel but will not ignite.

I borrowed it from my dad. Before I got it he filled it will #1 deisel fuel. I guess the instructions say it will burn either keresen or #1 fuel oil?

I have cleaned the spark plug and it is throwing a good white spark, but still won't ignite.

Any suggestions?

Either the Nozzle is Boogered Up,+ isn't vaporizing properly,....Change it,....Find 1 at a Furnace Supply House.......
Or the Sparkplug is Out of Adjustment,.......
It has to be Directly In the Fuel Cloud,+ Just Ahead,+ Above the Tip of the Nozzle...........

If we're talking about a Salamander style Forced Air Space Heater,...........
These will burn #1 Stove Oil,.. Kerosene,.. #1 Diesel,.. #1 Home Heating Oil,.. Jet Fuel,...(Lota names for the Same Liquid)
And even #2 Fuel Oil, Plain ole Diesel will burn just fine,.. But'll Smoke abit.......

Or,.........
It's an Exact Copy of the heater I got from My Dad,............
If I put it on the bench,+ Tune it Up,... It'll run Perfectly,...........
Till you Needed it on a Bitter Cold Day........
Then I sent it out to be serviced at a Service Center,...... It worked Perfectly,.........
Till you Needed it on a Bitter Cold Day........

Ayuh,........ I Inherited a Warm Weather Heater............... :D

Just as a side note. Where did the term 'salamander' come from in describing a heater?

I think I narrowed it down to the pump not kicking the right pressure.

Talked to a friend that his wouldn't work when cold unless he held his finger over the relief valve on the pump. When it was warm the fuel was fine, when it got cold the pressure wasn't right for some reason. He replaced the pump and it is fine. He even mixes unleaded gas with his at a rate of 1 quart every 3 galons of fuel. Thins out the mix and works better. Didn't help mine though.

Mine is a salamander type, torpedo if you will. Looks like a long tube on a tank with wheels.
