I have a 1988 Tiara 2700 with twin 5.7 L alpha 1 gen 1 Mercruisers. Working on these engines, winterizing, cleaning up connections, getting to the starter motors, trim pumps, changing oil filters, etc, is hard to do from the front, sides and middle. I find that it is easiest to place a piece of heavy cardboard across the top of the engines and just lay on top of them, reaching down to where I need to be.

What do the pros do? Am I hurting anything with my weight across the top? What should I be careful with and check afterwords. This boat is fairly new to me, but so far I have not seen any ill effects of laying on top of them.

Watch out for any plastic fittings that can break off...rubber hoses...etc...I have a piece of old upholstery..from the original seats...that I use to lie on...if I have to change a starter...or something way back on the end of the engine...

I use old pillows and moving blankets...... that carb stud in the rib cage is a killer.
