Well, if it's not a safe vehicle to have on the road anyone could get hurt. I spent 10 years as a paramedic and I can honestly tell you people get hurt or killed every day by silly accidents, or worse yet needless accidents caused by folks who didn't think through what they were doing. Duct tape, wire or even a 2 by 4 are not
effective band aids against equipment failure. Maybe in your back yard they are, but not when my families safety is at risk. I suppose you think it's OK to have a beer, then drive your car too. Well ask the guy that hit my family head on at 65 miles an hour....caused my daughter to have brain surgery, broke my moms back and put my dad in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Yeah that guy wasn't drunk, he was legal to drive, but fell asleep because of the alcohol. He also thought it was OK to drive "a couple of miles" It killed him and wreaked havoc on my family. So do you really want to ask me that question again?

Joe

Again, I said in the scenario the OP presented. Sorry for your losses, not fair, I agree. But, a little over the top.

I'm sorry bro, I can't say I've been in your shoes however I've seen similiar accidents during my brief career working for the Florida Marine patrol in the late 80's.

Not over the top at all....just comparing a real life scenario with one that the OP describes.....and luckily made it without hurting or killing someone.

Boat trailers fail all the time....however purposely using a known faulty trailer to do what he did is pure negligence.

The OP got lucky and I'm very happy no one was hurt.......however eventually good luck runs out.

First of all, I'm sorry for your loss. Sudden accidents like that are always tough. I lost a very close friend a couple years ago to a guy going home from the bar, at 80 mph (in a 25 zone), in the middle of town. T-boned her in an intersection, she was getting off her shift at the hospital, from the ER... He wanted to get home to call a girl he got the number of. (and yes, he was WELL beyond the legal limit)

But yes, I do believe it is fine to drive after a SINGLE beer. The guy fell asleep because he was tired and should not have been drinking. Accidents like that happen all the time without a single drop of alcohol involved. You would not find a single court in the land that says a normal driver is impaired after drinking 12 ounces of american beer. The alcohol did not cause it, lack of good judgement did.

And second, its call a straw man argument. Go look it up. Your argument is 100% invalid and pointless in this discussion, you can not debate one topic, and then try to use a completely unrelated but valid point to solve your first argument for you.

WTH?? Yes I can! poor judgement is POOR JUDGEMENT. Plain and simple. I didn't say the beer killed him....his poor judgement did, just like anyone who drinks and drives. Secondly, if you take a look at this thread, two thirds of the posters said the same as me, so what is this? Pile on the new guy? I might be new to this forum, but not at all new to life experiences that would have made this post non existent in the first place. Safety is safety plain and simple. That is non debatable..... period.

Just like the new guy said-poor judgement. You wonder why they make the laws they do. Just for the reason of this post.
